Customer challenge
Our partner for this project is a luxury fashion house with over 4,000 employees, specialized in the production of high-end, craft bags, accessories and other leather goods for the global market.
Being leather a natural material, it can be characterized by inhomogeneity and defects, the production of leather goods generates several tons of leather scrap that cannot currently be recycled or reused. The presence of chemicals to treat and dye the leather also makes the scrap hard to dispose of. In addition, the identification of defects is now in the hands of extremely expert craftsmen, whose talents are getting harder and harder to replace.
We partnered with the company to identify viable solutions to reduce production scrap.
Our results
Corporate Hangar has conducted an extensive scouting for technological solutions to address the customers’ demands, both among commercially available options and services developed by start-ups and new businesses.
Our team of engineers imagined a solution involving robotics, image recognition, and machine learning to automatize part of the customers’ processes, improve efficiency and minimize scraps, also reducing the environmental impact of the process.
Once the concept was validated with the client, we set for ourself the goal to bring the idea from a paper plane to a flying Minimum Viable Product. The team designed the robotic solutions, selected the best technological components needed, developing within 4 months the first prototype. The project was a success, and led to a second development stage and implementation of the solution.
