Customer challenge
With the cable produced in 1 year, Prysmian could go around the globe 250 times. All this cable travels on cable drums, that carry on average 1km of product. These assets are regarded often as low-value packaging, they are lost and not treated with care, resulting in a short life span, higher costs and carbon footprint.
Alesea started as an internal project in Prysmian, from a need identified by one of the regions: using a GPS to track drums and reduce the number of lost drums per year. However, no progress was made for over 2 years.
Our results
At first, CH validated the idea internally and with customers. It was immediately clear that the idea had potential. CH developed the MVP supported by the internal team and started testing the service with customers.
The tests revealed the potential to add more complex functionalities – such as cable metering and asset management – leading to the creation of a complete service suit to manage cable stock.
Most importantly, Corporate Hangar allowed the idea to receive managerial attention, stealth-storm through corporate politics to make the project happen, and focalize all internal efforts made on this subject. The innovation committee approved the launch of a start-up accelerated by Corporate Hangar in 2019.
Today, Alesea has installed over 80.000 devices, works with the most important utilities across the 5 continents and has consolidated its position as the market leader for cable management.
