Customer challenge
The client, a global manufacturing company, undertook a global-scale sustainability effort to integrate substantial recycled content into their products, presenting complex technological and operational challenges.
The initiative required careful material selection to uphold the company’s technical standards. However, limited visibility into plant-level recycling activities made it challenging to quantify current recycled material usage and assess prospective advantages.
Our results
Corporate Hangar played a crucial role in the company’s pursuit of integrating content in their products, acting as the operational arm of the team to scale the innovation project within the corporation.
We conducted and analysed a detailed survey to plant managers, aiming to unify understanding and quantify the usage of virgin and recycled materials across plants globally. This data gathering was essential to develop a strategic business plan, highlighting the economic benefits of varying recycled-to-virgin ratios and their impact on sustainability and costs.
The plan examined two scaling strategies, with several degrees of make-vs-buy options, to identify the most effective approach. Additionally, we supported the company’s technical and purchasing divisions in scouting and vetting suitable suppliers. This ensured alignment with the company’s quality standards and strategic objectives, and resulted in accelerated progress along the company’s sustainability roadmap.
